Now, in the bleak december, i was treated to a rather different view as I walked down the hall last sunday, as I got home somewhat tired (read: somewhat drunk) early sunday-morning, I heard a lovely babbling broke of in the distance while walking up the stairs, being somewhat tired i payed no real attention to it, went to my room and slept for 10 hours straight, as i walked out into the hall (somewhat groggy, unshaven, in boxershorts and drinking coffee from a Tasmanian devil mug) to get to the toilet that afternoon i could not help noticing that where the stairs used to be there was now something closely resembling Niagara falls.
It turns out that some pipes had burst in the burnt out part of the building and that one of the floors now had some 3000 liters of water standing on it.
So, the rest of the day was spent crawling around the darkest parts of this eighty year old building lookig for taps to turn of the water to that particular floor, breaking down doors to get to them, waiting for plumbers to help me disassemble & rebuild the severely rusted tabs, and talking to police who, alerted by passers by (the amount of water running down the facade of the building was (is) rather spectacular) came to investigate the source of the leak, and of whome at least one had hoped to have located a cannabis-plantation.
The old girl (she will be demolished in March 2008) seems determined to go out with a bang.
